JOB SUMMARY
Provide working supervision to departmental Abstractors, maintain and abstract patient data from patient charts to determine billable charges based on physician's treatment and diagnosis. Perform data analysis and quality checks to insure maximum revenue generation for services rendered.
Preferred professional experience in oncology abstraction and data management.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience
4 years related experience.
Preferred
- Licenses and Certifications
(CPC) CERT PROFESSIONAL CODER or
(ART) ASSOC RECORDS ADMIN or
(RRA) REGISTERED RECORDS ADMIN
JOB DUTIES
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of specific databases. Guides staff in the use of software and access/use of database(s).
- Abstracts medical records and/or reports utilizing established guidelines for the specific database(s). Troubleshoots/corrects rejected electronic data.
- Enters data efficiently and accurately. Performs quality checks. Submits appropriate data to national databases.
- Maintains database(s). Operates all module specific screens. Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot problems. Ensures system is backed up.
- Performs data analysis: queries data and prepares/formats special reports.
- Remains current with upgrades or new software/hardware issues. Communicates changes to supervisor and staff.
- Operates Windows Explorer, Windows 2000 and any subsequent upgrades, MSOffice applications, i.e., Word, Excel and Access and acts as a resource to staff for these applications.
- Interprets policies and ensures adherence to prescribed procedures. Trains or assists in training new Abstractors.
