Purchasing Intern - 2025 Summer Internship Program

Job Summary:

This is a 12-week program where interns will apply the knowledge and skills they've gained in the classroom by working alongside professionals at SunOpta. As part of the team, interns will gain valuable hands-on experience, contribute to meaningful projects, and improve processes. They will also gain insight into the latest trends in the food industry while helping to drive innovation and efficiency in sourcing and procurement.

Essential Functions of the Job:

SOURCING & PROCUREMENT INTERNSHIP

• Assist in supply chain mapping by identifying and documenting upstream suppliers to gain better visibility into sourcing risks and opportunities.
• Support procurement initiatives by analyzing supplier data, cost structures, and market trends to drive cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including logistics, operations, and supplier management, to enhance supply chain resilience in a dynamic global trade environment.
• Work with procurement professionals to improve supplier tracking systems and ensure compliance with trade regulations, tariffs, and sourcing strategies.
• Assist in RFQ (Request for Quotation) processes, supplier negotiations, and contract management to enhance procurement decision-making.
• Develop and present recommendations based on data analysis to improve supply chain visibility and sourcing strategies.
• Adhere to company GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), safety procedures, and all other quality processes.
• All other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Candidates must be working toward a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, procurement, business, or a related field.
• Candidates must be at least a sophomore in college and actively pursuing a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous internship experience in supply chain, procurement, or sourcing.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.

Additional Considerations:

• Travel: Travel may be required to various SunOpta locations for supplier visits, plant visits, or other job-related functions.
• Location: This position will be located at our Corporate Office in Eden Prairie, MN.
• Relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.
