Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for nursing care at unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Implements unit objectives and administrative policies. This position is under clinical supervision of the Unit Nurse Manager.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Functions within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting.
  • Supports the Values Based Culture philosophy of Texas Tech Managed Care.
  • Assist and communicate wit the Infection Control Nurse on completion of infection control responsibilities.
  • Assist in lab responsibilities at the Jordan and Baten Units.
  • Covers the floor and assists the Nurse Manager in supervision of the other clinical personnel and may substitute for the Nurse Manager in their absence.
  • Makes sure daily assignments are accomplished.
  • Communicates patient data using EHR and verbal communications including telephone and telehealth machines to aid in decision-making to improve patient care.
  • Assist with or performs exams and procedures and documents intervention in EHR.
  • Monitor and complete all functions in the PTM system.
  • Administer or assist with administration and documentation of medication.
  • Supports the goal of the unit by reports, attending meetings and sharing the information with the staff in regular staff meetings. Maintains working knowledge of current issues and treatment modalities.

Registered Nurse Shift Differential:
  • Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Night Shift Employees:
    • Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday.
    • Earn an extra $8.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.


Required Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Two years of nursing experience, with at least 6 months of that experience as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a valid, current RN license as approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners.
