Mapp Biopharmaceutical, Inc. "Mapp" is a San Diego based, innovative biopharmaceutical company focused on addressing unmet medical needs through the development of life-saving monoclonal antibody treatment options to combat a variety of neglected and tropical infectious diseases, and in support of biodefense and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) programs.

The Early Research and Development Group (ERDG) and the Advanced Research and Development Group (ARDG) at Mapp Biopharmaceutical are responsible for the execution of high quality Research and Development activities to ensure the achievement of a robust portfolio through CMC, Nonclinical, Regulatory, Project Management, and Clinical activities consistent with Mapp's product development objectives.

The Research Fellow - Government/NGO Capture individual will have responsibility to lead the company in the pursuit of government and NGO funding sources for Mapp's portfolio. This individual will have strategic responsibilities to search for, propose, and capture funding for Mapp's current and future development programs. This individual will work closely with Mapp leadership, Principal Investigators, and all functional areas within Mapp.

Basic Qualifications



  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Immunology
  • 15+ years of experience in a scientific role with 10+ years of experience in a senior government role providing leadership in drug development activities and funding for infectious diseases and antitoxins
  • Proven experience funding and managing multi-billion dollar portfolio of approved, and candidate therapeutics for the treatment of a variety of infectious diseases and antitoxins
  • Developed partnerships with government-supported research institutions in the USA and abroad
  • Developed partnerships with Ministry of Heath, physicians, first response staff, and US embassies abroad
  • Demonstrated experience with high profile job duties with security clearance related to national preparedness
  • Demonstrated experience directly supervising diverse team members that may be comprised of both technical and non-technical roles
  • Demonstrated experience leading FDA interactions related to national preparedness for countermeasure programs
  • Demonstrated experience in field use and Expanded Access Protocols
  • Demonstrated experience leading an organization in the development and/or funding of animal models required for regulatory approval under the FDA's Animal Rule
  • Broad extensive clinical development experience across all phases of product development and in multiple therapeutic areas
  • High emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrated consistent achievement of team delivery against commitments and goals
  • Experience with communication of company goals and objectives to investors and partners
  • Ability to provide scientific and operational expertise to development programs and evaluate scientific and development strategies to obtain regulatory approval with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strategic thinker and problem-solver capable of identifying risks and risk mitigation strategies
  • Strong teamwork, negotiation and influencing skills, able to work in a team setting and establish clear and consistent goals and objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and acts as a team player
  • Strong scientific writer and oral presenter

  • Experience in rare/orphan/neglected tropical diseases


Responsibilities



  • Partners with Principal Investigators and internal functional areas on the development of program strategy
  • Performs significant outreach to government and NGO agencies and representatives about Mapp's current and future portfolio
  • Identifies and pursues government and NGO funding streams and extramural programs
  • Participates in the planning, writing, and review of proposals for funding opportunities
  • Mentors the development teams in government and NGO strategy and processes
  • Plays a critical role in the successful development and advancement of the Mapp portfolio of candidates through regulatory approval and ensures the departments are working towards achieving this common goal
  • Represents the company to investigators, regulatory authorities, partners and stakeholders
  • Partners with internal departments on the evaluation and in-licensing/acquisition of external product development opportunities in an effort to build a first class and diverse product development portfolio


Mapp offers a competitive compensation and benefits package in addition to this exciting and challenging job. Mapp's anticipated pay scale for this position is $200,000 to $300,000 per year plus any applicable bonuses. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the candidate's level of education, and type and length of experience within the job and/or within the industry. Medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits are available to eligible employees and their families. Mapp also provides basic life insurance, short and long term disability, and a 401K plan that includes Company contributions to eligible employees. Full time employees will be provided 7 days of sick time, 14 paid holidays, and will also accrue 18 days of vacation throughout the calendar year.

If your job responsibilities allow, you may choose to work remotely. Willingness to Travel (Domestic Travel = Approximately <20% + International Travel = Approximately <10%) will be required for this position.
