About the unit

6 North is a Cardiovascular inpatient unit within Butterworth Hospital that specializes in caring for adult patients with Heart Failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring. Individuals would want to work on this unit do to the large variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that allow for a robust skill set. The culture of this unit is team work and support. Staff works closely with physicians andother healthcare providers and services to provide optimal care in the inpatient setting.

Scope of Work

Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients.

Articulates the nursing technician role to the patient, family and health team members. Provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.

Cleans patient's environment, work area, equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department personnel.

Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.

Orientation

Orientation weeks will require flexibility to train during weekdays, before phasing into regular shifts.

  • Week 1: Requires classroom orientation 8am-4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
  • Week 2: Orientation shifts will be in the Nursing Unit 7am-7:30pm
  • Week 3: Requires classroom orientation Monday 8:00am -4:30pm for Advanced Safety Care
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalentexperience required
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) Required within 90 days
  • Previous experience in patient care is preferred
