Senior Collections Manager Cooley is seeking a Senior Collections Manager to join the Accounting team.

Position summary: Under the general direction of the Director of Revenue, the Senior Collections Manager is responsible for the management of assigned collections team business professionals, ensuring compliance with company and department policies and procedures and working with the Director of Revenue to ensure department goals are understood and then acted upon. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Review A/R aged inventory and communicate or meet with partners or attorneys accordingly
  • Serve as initial point of contact on significant client accounts to monitor outstanding receivables
  • Direct collections team members to contact specific clients accordingly, and follow up, taking further action, as needed
  • Identify new business opened on clients with delinquent outstanding receivables, and obtain information from the Responsible Attorney regarding payment resolution
  • Refer matters to the Bankruptcy partner-in-charge for further collection action
  • Identify A/R inventory and trends and report those findings to the Director of Revenue and the GCOF, as needed
  • Identify receivables for either write-off or transfer to suspense and gather necessary information to proceed with further collection actions, when warranted
  • Monitor payment plans, both under headings of Promissory Notes and informal plans outlining specific payment terms and dates, as well as checking for retainers for new work when so stated in note or plan
  • Prepare and distribute monthly and year-end collection projections in conjunction with collections team members
  • Working with collectors and partners, appropriately identify and apply Unallocated and Trust funds to A/R
  • Coordinate with Director of Revenue and other accounting business professionals, as needed to ensure appropriate process flow and assignment of duties
  • Develop and keep up to date written policies and control procedures to support collections processes
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses of client and Partner accounts in Excel
  • Manage year-end close processes in collections
  • Comprehend accounting systems flow in these respected areas. Assist in all software initiatives, launches and conversion related efforts
  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Advanced Excel, metric and reporting experience
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 7+ years' direct applicable experience (e.g., prior bookkeeping and accounting collections or other related financial experience) with 2+ years of exempt/management experience in relevant roles
  • Work more independently, demonstrate escalating ownership and mastery of assigned area, exhibit strength in the areas below, become a resource and mentor to others and more as they progress in different roles within the department
  • Well versed on all collections processes and procedures
  • Elite 3E or Elite Enterprise experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior law firm experience
  • Supervisory experience

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $140,000 - $190,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
