Communication Disorder Specialist

Earn $23.00/hour with the selection of the Enhanced Pay Option.

Position Details:

This is a professional position in the field of speech and hearing. The employee provides assessment,

program recommendations and communication training for persons with speech and language deficits,

conducts annual audiological screenings, makes referrals, and works with other staff in implementing

functional communication programs for residents in a variety of environmental settings. Monitors

and provides direction to Communication Aide when appropriate. Work performance will be directed

by the Program Director or designee.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of and adherence to the Code of Ethics published by The American Speech and Hearing
• Association.
• Knowledge of practices and techniques of speech and hearing therapy.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures of the facility.
• Ability to incorporate assistive devices within the program.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agency staff.
• Ability to properly evaluate residents' speech, language and hearing disabilities.
• Ability to organize and direct individual and group sessions.
• Ability to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to develop and implement meaningful curricula including functional speech/language goal
• plans.
• Ability to lift, transfer and carry residents, usually exceeding 50 pounds.
• Ability to develop and carry out programs with creativity and initiative.

• Bachelor's degree in the area of communication disorders or speech and hearing is required.
• Position requires flexibility, creativity, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Valid and current driver's license.
