Summary:
  • Provide strategic guidance, lead, direct and manage EmblemHealth's budgeting and forecasting processes by incorporating industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance and offer recommendations for cost saving strategies with department leads that would yield higher efficiency or lower costs to the company by performing deep analytic dives into the organizational data.
  • Develop EmblemHealth into a world class organization from the finance perspective by applying advanced analytics to all financial decisions and incorporating industry best practices to help guide the decisions.
  • Incorporate all existing and future financial reporting into the cutting-edge Oracle Cloud; develop new reporting capabilities; help lead the effort in familiarizing the rest of the organization with its vast capabilities including training end users.
  • Evaluate and decide on proposed corporate expenditures.
  • Direct and oversee the department responsible for analyzing P&L analytics at all levels; support the business through regular meetings with department heads to discuss the impact of their respective budgets to business owners; and create detailed analyses of vendor spend by account and detailed analysis of FTE and associated personnel expenses.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of metrics, analytics, and other tools that assist departments in managing budgets, forecasting, and increasing overall efficiency and efficacy of the finance function as it relates to their departments.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop Emblem into a world class organization from the finance perspective by adding analytics to all financial decisions on investments and incorporating industry best practices to help guide the decisions.
  • Collaborate with department heads (including VPs and SVPs) to review administrative cost structure.
  • Provide variance explanations and strategic insight to the business utilizing industry best practices to illustrate inconsistencies and offer recommendations to correct such variations.
  • Monitor the budget performance at both a detailed and consolidated level; utilize deep dive analytics to develop reports; provide recommendations on corrective actions or adjustments that are communicated to senior management; provide consultations to departments in preparing budgets and forecasts and in managing such budgets to meet corporate goals.
  • Lead, direct and manage the corporate administrative cost budget and forecast process, including preparation, consolidation, distribution and revision of budgets, forecasts and related projects; evaluate the leveraging of new technologies; make recommendations that will improve existing processes across the enterprise to drive efficiencies.
  • Manage and foster a team that creates added-value to the analysis it provides. Encourage team members to develop new ways to present data, explain variances and think outside of the box. Encourage proper communication between each of the analysts and the business. Develop new ideas and put them into action when appropriate.
  • Manage resources, develop operational strategies and provide leadership to ensure that production and quality of work meets team, department and corporate goals. Create a thorough support process and be involved in day to day project management planning and scheduling, including business resource allocation to prioritized activities.
  • Create ad hoc reports when requested by senior management, utilizing industry best practices and presented in a format that is appropriate for the given audience. These reports should also provide sufficient support for the analytics provided within.
  • Perform other duties/tasks as assigned or required.

Requirements:



  • A bachelor's degree in business administration in an accounting or finance emphasis required
  • CPA or master's degree preferred, preferably in business administration, healthcare administration, finance, accounting or related field
  • 10 - 12 years' experience in financial reporting/analysis, preferably in a healthcare environment required
  • 3 - 5 years' experience managing a team of financial analysts required
  • Understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting required
  • Thorough understanding of financial systems: Oracle cloud-based financial systems, PeopleSoft, and Hyperion required
  • Comprehensive understanding of internal and external business practices, the unique nature of the health insurance industry and the associated requirements needed to yield a profitable product suite required
  • Ability to recognize, identify, and analyze problems, and to formulate and recommend actionable solutions required
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interaction) with all types/levels of audiences; the ability to cultivate & maintain positive working relationships within the department and with professionals from other departments required
  • Ability to effectively interpret and comprehend complex concepts and situations, and to synthesize and efficiently and effectively convey critical information in a method appropriate for each audience required
  • Proven ability to effectively organize and prioritize work, and to successfully meet deadlines required
  • Ability to "think outside of the box" and develop/create analyses that are relevant and actionable required
