HIRING SALARY RATE: $18.57

Description of Duties:

This is a temporary 10 month assignment, 15-20 hrs/week. Anticipated appointment period Mid-April /2025 - 6/27/2025 with a 30 day break in July, to restart in early August. Typical work schedule 4-5 hours/day with occasional after hours or weekend work and commitment to work 2 Saturdays each semester to support the Online Weekends.

The Science Lab Assistant supports the science classes in the online program, biology lab classes in the residential program and Science Department extracurricular activities in the residential program. This position is responsible for compiling, boxing, and shipping lab kits to Online students. This position provides technical lab support for the Online weekends (two Saturdays each semester) and technical support for the weekly biology lab activities. This position supports special events on evenings and weekends as needed and assists the Chemistry Lab manager to complete the yearly chemical inventory and waste disposal. Other tasks as indicated by the Dean. This position coordinates with the Science Program Associate for the shipping and receiving of packages. This position reports directly to the Dean of Science.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Must have good communication skills and be able to work effectively with students and faculty. Laboratory experience required with a commitment to lab safety practices. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite software. Must have a current driver's license and clean driving record.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree, preferably in the sciences with related laboratory experience. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If applicants are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least six years and was discharged under honorable conditions, they must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22 along with their state application.
