We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern to join our Position, Navigation & Timing team at Hexagon US Federal. As an intern here, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) by performing work in one or more of several supporting fields, including circuit production and testing; signals and systems analysis; field tests with APNT systems in tests on land, air, and/or water; advanced simulation; systems engineering; writing and troubleshooting code in languages such as MATLAB, C, Python, etc. You will work closely with our team of professionals and occasionally interact with our customers. You will be expected to assist with day-to-day operations, contribute to ongoing projects, and participate in various tasks that support the departments goals. Additionally, Interns will participate in weekly speaker series featuring prominent leaders across the organization. This internship will provide you valuable exposure to your field of study, offering you a chance to develop skills, network with professionals, and apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting.

Responsibilities:
  • Systems Engineering: Understand the hardware and software architecture of a GPS receiver and other supporting parts of an APNT system and understand how system requirements are allocated to individual elements of the architecture. Analyze test data to verify requirements and/or assist with resolution of test anomalies. Develop scripts (MATLAB, Python) to assist with data analysis and performance assessment.
  • Hardware Analysis, Design and Testing: Design small test circuits and use test equipment to assist with interfacing to PNT equipment and with automating test procedures.
  • Software Analysis, Design, and Testing: Understand the function(s) of an existing body of software and the external interfaces required for the software to function correctly. Understand software architecture, data elements, interfaces, and other characteristics. Assist with code analysis and documentation of PNT equipment.
  • Briefings, Reports, and Presentations: Provide regular written and verbal reports of your work to team member(s) in an agreed-on schedule. Brief members of partner organizations that participate in the team's projects and attend briefings by them.
  • Safety: Articulate safety risks and suggest mitigations to remove or reduce those risks. Perform safety procedures and observe safety protocols.
This job is for you if:
  • Enjoy the challenge of managing complexity using the systems engineering process to decompose high-level systems into components, study and modify the components and their interactions, and reassemble them to add system capability and performance needed by a customer.

  • Are interested in the interlocking concepts of accuracy, integrity, availability, and reliability that govern performance of APNT systems; and desire to learn how to maximize each in a given system at an affordable price.
  • Gain satisfaction from isolating, identifying, and conquering vexing system faults using intuition, logic and persistent troubleshooting techniques.
  • Recognize the importance of balancing performance, schedule and cost to produce a winning product that motivates a customer to buy it.
  • Want to improve and polish your soft skills including networking, exerting influence across organizational boundaries even without having formal authority, and verbal and written communication skills.
