Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Visitation Specialist provides visits at office/home/community sites for parents whose children have been placed out of the home by Delaware County Children and Youth Services (CYS). The Clinical Visitation Specialist facilitates the strengthening of familial bonds between parent and child; supports the family in working toward reunification, and participates in the creation of a permanency plan for children recently placed in out-of-home care. This position requires evening and weekend hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Collaborate with CYS to assess the parents or guardians and their relationship with their child based on information given during the visitation intake process which includes explaining the process to the parents/guardians and determining clinical visitation goals
  • Partner with CYS placement caseworkers in managing the case via email and phone communication, documentation and face-to-face meetings with CYS caseworkers
  • Transport children to and from visits (e.g. school, foster homes) utilizing Elwyn provided vehicle
  • Supervise parent/child visitation by providing parenting education to parents/guardians, assessing parent's/guardian's protective capacity using clinical judgement, modeling and teaching appropriate parenting skills (e.g. teaching a parent appropriate discipline skills, showing parent how to play with their child)
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of each visit based on established timeframes determined by CYS
  • Participate in interagency team meetings with agents involved with the case including CYS, court appointed special advocates
  • Attend and testify in court about the parent's/guardian's relationship with the child based on visitation documentation relative to the case
  • This position requires evening and weekend hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned

CONTACTS: Elwyn personnel, children/families/guardian, CYS agency personnel, attorneys, court appointed special advocates, foster/resource families

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:



  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in human services or related field; Masters of Social Work (MSW) preferred
  • Experience in parent education/training and child development preferred
  • Direct clinical experience working with children in foster care and their families preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience in the United States, and acceptable driving record
