Hardware Quality/Mission Assurance Engineer

The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Mission and Manufacturing Assurance Department provides a diverse range of capabilities that enable and support implementation of technical and programmatic mission, industrial base and manufacturing assurance on satellites, launch vehicles, and the associated ground systems. MMAD staff support all program phases beginning with pre-contract requirements definition/evaluation/assessment and continuing through system integration, test, deployment and on-orbit checkout. We are looking for motivated Quality/Mission/Manufacturing Assurance professionals to join our high-performing and collaborative team to help evolve our capabilities to meet the technical challenges of tomorrow. This position requires a solid understanding of QA/MA requirements and the flexibility to tailor and apply effective QA/MA/manufacturing engineering skills and concepts across a program lifecycle.

Work Model

This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA, which requires 100% onsite work.

What You'll Be Doing

• Assist in establishing and assuring proper execution of MA/QA requirements; Identify and evaluate risks, trade-offs, and mitigation plans
• Participate in gated design and hardware production readiness reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, FCA/PCA, PSR) providing technical assessments and recommendations to customers
• Participate in hardware Material and Failure Review Boards providing risk assessments, reach across evaluations and recommendations to customers
• Perform electronic hardware mandatory inspections at prime contractors and sub-tier suppliers/subcontractors
• Perform independent pedigree, End Item Data Package and Hardware Acceptance reviews
• Develop and execute process and product assessments and audits beginning with audit/assessment planning through verification of corrective and/or preventive actions
• Employ a rigorous and methodical approach to problem-solving and root cause analysis
• Deliver independent, data-driven technical advice, feedback, and reports to management and customers utilizing effective, compelling verbal and written communication

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Sr MTS - Mission Assurance Engineering include:

• B.S. degree in engineering or related field in science from an accredited institution
• Five years of technical experience as a Quality or Manufacturing Engineer in aerospace-related manufacturing
• Experience with QMS standards including ISO 9001 and/or AS9100
• Experience with workmanship standards including IPC J-STD-001 and NASA 8739.x series
• Experience performing audits and participating on Independent Review Teams (IRTs)
• Familiarity with industry compliance standards and contract flow down
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and nonconformance reports
• Ability to travel to contractor and/or government facilities (estimated 30% of time on travel)
• This position requires a current and active TS/SCI clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the ES - Mission Assurance Engineering include:

• 10 years of technical experience as a Quality or Manufacturing Engineer in aerospace-related manufacturing with demonstrated leadership competencies
• Demonstrated experience executing aforementioned Mission/Quality assurance activities over a program lifecycle

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

• Demonstrated experience contributing to program gated reviews including MRR, TRR, FCA/PCA, and PSR
• Demonstrated experience contributing to anomaly and failure investigations (MRB/FRB) and performing root cause analysis
• Demonstrated experience working with suppliers and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and industrial base concerns
• Demonstrated experience planning and conducting AS9100 QMS audits
• Active SCI clearance
