Staff R&D Technician is responsible to create simple and/or complex programs for CNC equipment using CAD/CAM software along with the skill set to make on the fly programming changes at the machine while having the machining competence to set up and produce products from the created/modified programs or on manual machines requiring set-up and tool selection of conventional lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses and other standard shop equipment. CNC machine operations include processing one off prototypes on lathes, mills, wire EDM's, and laser marking equipment after set-up. Ability to perform all Sr. Machinist (level III) functions including complex machine set-ups. What will you be doing?
Ability to perform all prototype CAD CAM Machinist - Level T3 duties. Create and maintain multi-axis CNC programs to produce prototype parts and research lab fixtures using CAD/CAM software. Ability to change or modify programs on the fly at the machine controller to aid with changes made on the spot from franchise engineers. Develop CNC machining processes by selecting the chucking device, cutting tools, tool arrangement, and cutting speeds and feeds with emphasis on standardization. Work closely with franchise engineers to make on the fly changes to programs to aid in new product development opportunities. Assist in the design of jigs, tools, fixtures, and special equipment for CNC applications. Ensure compliance with current CNC programming standards and best practices. Experience using Unigraphics and multi axis mills programming and Part-maker for multi axis lathe programming a must. Performs frequent and complex CNC/ mill and lathe setup/operations to produce quality prototype products based on provided specifications. Performs setup/operations on specialty machines. Solves tooling issues by identifying productivity of tooling, evaluating tooling performance, and evaluating new tooling requirements. Collaborates with franchise engineers to increase process efficiencies.

Must be able to react to normal machine scheduling and emergency requirements to maintain a steady flow of parts through CNC equipment. Ability to read/interpret blueprints; measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, scales, and indicators) and in-depth knowledge of tooling identification. Sr. Machinist with 3+ years' experience. Experience producing one off device's is essential. Assignments may also originate from opportunities that develop in the shop. Language Skills: Create documents and verbally communicates in a clear, concise and effective format. Mathematical Skills: Strong math background including trigonometry. Reasoning Ability: Analytical ability to solve shop problems. Physical Demands:
Requires walking, standing, 70% of the time. Bending, squatting, and reaching, 10% of the time.
