Zayo is seeking a Fiber Network Planner to support the planning, optimization, and enhancement of fiber network infrastructure, focusing on long-term capacity, reliability, and performance. Our Fiber Network Planner role involves analyzing traffic patterns, managing fiber capacity, and contributing to initiatives aimed at improving network resiliency and efficiency.

Our Fiber Network Planner will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop fiber network solutions and support network growth, expansion, and optimization efforts. This position requires experience in fiber network design and operations, the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and effective collaboration with teams including Fiber Engineering, OSP Project Managers, Field Operations, and Sales.

Our Fiber Network Planner works as part of a team with moderate supervision and contributes to key network initiatives. This role has a direct impact on network performance, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Effective planning will contribute to improved network uptime, better customer implementation timelines, and optimized fiber network performance.

Responsibilities:

1. Fiber Network Planning & Optimization

  • Collaborate with Zayo's Outside Plant teams to understand operational challenges and network requirements.

  • Assist Product, Sales, Sales Engineers, and Program Managers in designing fiber network solutions that balance cost, scalability, and customer needs.

  • Contribute to planning and optimization efforts aimed at improving network performance and addressing capacity requirements.

2. Network Planning & Analysis

  • Support network planning initiatives, including addressing splice entry issues and improving network capacity.

  • Use GIS tools (e.g., IQGeo Network Manager, ESRI, Google Earth) and inventory systems to assess fiber route utilization and assist with capacity expansion planning.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of splicing plans to optimize routing at key intersections.

3. Project & Program Support

  • Assist with managing and executing multiple projects, ensuring alignment with network and customer goals.

  • Support project prioritization, manage escalations, and contribute to the development of contingency plans.

  • Participate in stakeholder meetings, provide updates on network planning activities, and ensure accurate documentation of network changes.

4. Standards & Process Improvement

  • Assist in defining and enforcing standards for fiber network design, splicing, and maintenance.

  • Contribute ideas for process improvements aimed at enhancing implementation timelines, reducing costs, and maintaining network integrity.

  • Collaborate with and support junior planners to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Experience gathering and analyzing solution requirements through collaboration with stakeholders and team members.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with GIS platforms, Salesforce, Sitetracker, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs.

  • Knowledge and experience in fiber network design, with a focus on customer satisfaction and network optimization.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Geography/GIS, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 (three - five) years of experience in fiber network planning, engineering, or a related telecommunications field.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with geographically dispersed teams.

  • Knowledge of the telecommunications industry and network planning processes.

  • Experience with Visio, Lucid, Asana, Oracle Fusion, and related project management tools.

Estimated base pay range for this role: $78,500 - $112,100 USD/annually

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.

The posting will be active for a minimum of 3 days. The active posting will continue to extend by 3 days until the position is filled.
