The Digital Systems Engineering Department (DSED), part of the Systems Engineering Directorate (SED), is charged with helping our customers successfully adopt, integrate, and utilize digital system models, methods, tools, and practices as part of their systems realization lifecycle processes through a combination of research & innovation, prototyping, analysis, training, and advisory functions.

We are searching for an Engineering Manager with the passion to supervise multiple early career and mid-level staff members while also directly making use of Digital Systems Engineering concepts, principles, practices, and tools to perform prototyping and analysis in support of concept development, requirements definition and verification, and analyses-of-alternatives (AoA) for space and defense architectures. This technical leader will mentor staff, especially in the focus areas of professional and career development, teamwork collaboration, technical problem-solving, and customer engagement.

Work Model

This is a full-time, on-site position with occasional telecommuting opportunities based on the needs and priorities of the organization.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Independently assemble and lead skilled teams of multi-discipline studies and analysis experts, coordinate complex technical tasks among team members, translate customer needs into project objectives and instructions for analysts and developers, track performance, review work products for quality and accuracy, and complete projects
  • Provide day-to-day, on-site support, inclusion, and mentorship to assigned local and geographically separated staff, proactively engage corporate processes to meet staff needs, and provide on-demand support to staff for any issues they present.
  • Provide expert advice on customer space and defense architectures, including related ground systems and supporting technologies.
  • Build and maintain a strong base of customers and collaborators for the section through effective working relationships with cross-organization partners, government customers, and contractor teammates.
  • Develop staff through formal and informal performance management, evaluation, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Recruit and on-board full-time staff and student interns to maintain an impactful organization in a diverse and equitable environment.
  • Formulate and implement business functions for management efficiencies and strategies to identify objectives, funding, and support for development and maintenance of analysis capabilities to meet evolving needs.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in aerospace engineering, industrial & systems engineering, operations research, or a related field of science or engineering
  • 5 years of related professional work experience
  • Skilled in at least one of the following functional areas: use of descriptive modeling language standards, methods, and computer-aided tooling used to build or analyze model representing space, ground, and defense systems.
  • Working knowledge in two or more of these specific national security space or intelligence mission areas: geospatial intelligence, signals intelligence, communications infrastructure, space surveillance, space protection, or spacecraft ground systems.
  • A history that shows personal accountability, a willingness to learn and self-correct, and an ability to adapt to changing customer expectations.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics, dynamics, or mathematics related to space satellites.
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI clearance and CI Poly, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Direct experience with the activities listed in the "job summary" or "what you'll be doing" sections above, associated with either the U.S. Dept. of Defense, Dept. of Energy, or the Intelligence Community.
  • A graduate degree in the fields of study mentioned above, or equivalent, successful, firsthand work history in the functional areas or mission areas listed above.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Intelligence Community or U.S. Department of Defense business practices, acquisition policies, or space mission portfolios.
  • Prior management or leadership experience in hiring, mentoring, training, or development of personnel.
  • Active TS/SCI Access with a Counter-Intelligence (CI) polygraph

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$134,200 - $201,300 Pay Basis: Annual
