Position Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Mexico invite applications for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. We are seeking a research focused, experienced individual with excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research related to autonomous systems in VR/AR and Internet of Things. The ideal candidate will publish results in leading journals and conferences in these related fields, write proposals for additional funding opportunities, lead group projects, and collaborate with graduate students and undergraduate students in research projects. The successful candidate should be able to start work immediately.
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the employment. The ideal candidate should have:
- A background in one or more fields of controls, AR/VR, IoT, machine learning, optimization, and robotics
- Demonstrated experience in the programming languages of python, Unity, and C#
- Demonstrated ability to work in Linux-based computing environments
- Demonstrated experience with IoT including but not limited to wireless sensor networks, microprocessors, and sensor autonomy
- Demonstrated experience in VR and/or AR research
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and ability to prioritize and multitask
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Minimum Qualifications:
- PHD in mechanical engineering or closely related field by the start date of appointment
