Ask your recruiter about our competitive total rewards package including a $1000 or $3000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance if you are located outside of 100 miles! **Lab Assistant positions are available in levels I, II, and III based on education and experience** General Description: This entry level position performs pre-analytical laboratory work that assists in the diagnosis and treatment of OU Health patients. Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.
- Responsible for the receiving, processing and distribution of specimens for multiple laboratory sections including specimen transport
- Enters patient information and test orders into Electronic Health Record
- Operates laboratory equipment such as (but not limited to) scales, centrifuges and incubators
- Performs and documents proper maintenance of instrumentation and equipment following all safety and regulatory requirements
- Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as answering the telephone, file and prepare records for filing
- Participates in continuing education, professional development and research activities to maintain competencies and promote continuous improvements in care and treatments
- Knowledge of computer data entry and keyboard skills
- Maintains clean work station
- Performs other duties as assigned
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES for LEVEL II:
- Utilizing advanced-level professional knowledge, abilities, skills and available resources, provides safe, high quality, efficient and cost-effective patient-centric care and support services under routine or emergent conditions in a variety of care settings.
- May perform as a shift or team lead to augment or fill-in for leadership roles as needed to coordinate workflow and operations of an assigned service area.
- Reviews data as assigned to maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
- Serves as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentor new or less experienced team members.
- Communicates and collaborates with technical personnel in order to provide exceptional clinical outcomes.
- Coordinates operator and department-level quality control, safety and environment of care checks to maintain compliance with hospital, manufacturer, regulatory and accrediting entity standards.
- Performs and/or assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as assigned.
- Performs Inventory management activities.
- May perform waived and non-waived testing as applicable
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES for LEVEL III:
- Performs as a shift or team lead to augment or fill-in for leadership roles as needed to coordinate workflow and operations of an assigned service area.
- Assists leadership with the development of laboratory processes and procedures.
- May be assigned as qualified evaluator.
*Minimum Qualifications (Level I): Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: 0-3 years of experience required. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: None Required. *Minimum Qualifications (Level II): Education High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred. Experience: 3-5 years of experience required. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Non *Minimum Qualifications (Level III): Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred. Experience: 5 or more years of experience required. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: None Required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have skills and abilities to perform required laboratory procedures.
- Must be able to work as part of a team and follow instructions; must be able to consistently and dependably report to work as scheduled.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes.
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and exercise sound judgment.
- Must be able to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Must possess ability to understand various operations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work and communicate with co-workers and other caregivers, and meet their needs in a professional, polite, courteous, compassionate, and cooperative manner.
- Must display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards establishing priorities and completing assignments efficiently.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care within the laboratory.
- Completes annual competency assessment. Assumes responsibility of own professional development.
