The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SHS) is an active department in the College of Arts & Sciences. The department has both undergraduate (major and minor in SHS) and graduate (MS in Speech Language Pathology; PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders) academic programs and research activities. In addition, as part of our academic mission, the department supports an active outpatient clinic for the treatment of speech-language disorders, as well as audiology services for managing hearing loss and dispensing hearing aids.

This department is a joyful place to work with lots of diversity including a strong academic, scholarship and clinical mission. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our energetic team as the Department Administrator, A2. The Department Administrator will supervise the academic support staff and will actively participate in fiscal management, human resource administration, such as faculty, staff and student hiring, academic admissions and course scheduling, building maintenance, safety coordination, and the operations and compliance of the department functions which includes clinic operations.

The Department Administrator will also (a) oversee and administer programs, strategies, and initiatives designed to develop, enhance, and support the mission of this large, complex academic internal and external business activities, accounting and finance, and human resources; and (c) department, as measured by annual revenue and number of faculty and staff; (b) oversee all manage and coordinate facility and resource management, information services, and general department administration.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Department Chair to ensure that administrative, academic, research and clinical functions support the department's mission of excellence in these areas. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, campus departments, clinic clients, and public entities. The successful candidate will be an independent worker who is able to multitask and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines as they arise for the department.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 3 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrate successful supervisory skills
  • Demonstrate strong organization
  • Experience with operating budgets, reconciliation of program budgets, categorization of reserves
  • Experience working in an academic and/or clinical setting including scheduling
  • Experience with a variety of software including excel, Access, Human Resources system and payroll system
  • Experience with student, financial and/or clinical records
  • Experience with inventory
