Architectural Intern - Summer 2025 (May-August)

About This Role

Provide technical support and assist Architects with architectural design and plan development. Under the direction of an Architect, this position will include the documentation of damaged or other existing structures, analysis to design repairs for these structures, and preparation of reports and drawings to convey the results of these analyses. Assists in the application of scientific principles, design methods, and techniques to a variety of projects.

The mandatory research project must be completed by the end of the Internship and is expected to require approximately 40 hours of effort (housing not included). The research topic shall be mutually agreed upon between the intern and supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site visits to perform inspections of existing structures.
  • Dimensional documentation of structures and understanding of existing building systems and elements.
  • Condition assessment or damage documentation of damaged or other existing structures.
  • Reviewing the literature, drawings, reports, or other documentation related to project work.
  • Preparing AutoCAD drawings detailing proposed repairs or retrofits to existing structures.
  • Using programs such as MathCAD or Excel to organize and present calculations and data.
  • Preparing technical reports to convey the results of analyses or inspections.

Required Work Hours:

  • Internships with ESi are expected to be full-time, 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8 am-5 pm).
  • If you are participating in our co-op program - we require that you take no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and are able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Verbal and Written Communication.
  • Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software. Strong Mechanical Aptitude.

Computer Skills:

  • AutoCAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams

Education Requirement:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Architecture or related field
  • Must have completed at least Freshman year
  • 3.00 GPA or higher, preferred.

Other Skills/Abilities or Other Qualifications:

  • Strong Mechanical aptitude and communication skills

Work Experience:

  • Any experience performing field investigations, building inspections, structural analysis, structural design, technical report writing, and preparation is preferred.

Position Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.
