Job Description

Fleet Power Plant Engineering (FPP) delivers technical products and advice to the Nuclear Navy, any time and any place. FPP provides full life-cycle support of our nuclear platforms and helps ensure maximum fleet readiness, operational capability, and safety through development and delivery of technically excellent products, responsive and timely solution to emergent issues, and proactive development of improvements. FPP is seeking highly motivated engineers, scientists, and prior nuclear plant operators to support this mission. Responsibilities include:

* Drive innovation initiatives that help to improve steam and reactor plant system performance, operation, or maintenance

* Provide resolution of operating fleet and shipyard technical issues

* Lead design changes such as developing detailed designs, shipboard use procedures and manuals, and supporting installation and operation

* Prioritize and manage tasks to ensure proper technical project management and integration of work to ensure technical deliverables meet schedules and budgets

* Mentor team to support technical and leadership development

* Facilitate a strong and productive teaming environment with related organizations internal and external to the company

* Make written technical recommendations in formal correspondence and perform technical reviews of recommendations

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified; or qualified SIT and 3 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Currently or previously CRE qualified; or 6 years as SRE; or SRE qualified and 9 years of experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant (NNPP) operating experience.
  • Successful completion of command qualification
  • High intrinsic motivation to learn
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Demonstrated ability to drive complicated technical problems to resolution (problems solving) and completion.
  • Experience with technical evaluations and reports
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pay Range
$103,100.00 - $161,100.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
