Job Description

Interested in joining a team of engineers supporting the reactor servicing for US Navy submarines and land-based operator training platforms The Submarine Servicing Systems unit in Schenectady, NY is seeking a highly motivated and versatile engineer to join a team of engineers developing reactor servicing systems for these plants.

This challenging and rewarding position offers opportunities to continue developing and expanding technical and leadership skills through complex design and systems engineering assignments. Design and systems projects include new equipment designs, design modifications, equipment re-use evaluations, fabrication support, operational procedure development and safety evaluations.

Our engineers' team with many interfaces such as NNL technical support groups, BPMI, shipyard and Naval Reactors personnel to complete deliverables. These projects support ongoing and upcoming operations at the three public shipyards, meaning that our engineers can travel to the shipyards to watch operations for projects that they have successfully completed.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field.

Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skill
  • Experience in equipment design, structural analysis, fit-up studies
  • Demonstrated ability to write well and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiar with MS Office Suite, MathCad, PTC CREO (or other 3D modeling software), ABAQUS

Pay Range
$62,000.00 - $94,900.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
