UCF Health - Student Health Services (SHS):

UCF Health - Student Health Services (SHS) provides various primary and specialty care services to help keep students, faculty, and staff at their optimum health. The Health Center is located on the Main Campus. Our services are designed with students, faculty, and staff needs in mind. Become a part of our committed UCF Student Health Team as a Certified Medical Assistant I and deliver outstanding care to our community.

The Opportunity:

The Student Health Services (SHS) Certified Medical Assistant I position will mainly be responsible for performing physician support services to ensure the care of patients under the oversight of a licensed Physician. Additionally, this position will assist in other areas to meet the needs of UCF Student Health Services.

This is a time-limited funded position. Employment is subject to the availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Responsibilities:


  • Take and record vital signs and statistics on all patients.

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records.

  • Room patient via E.M.R. for provider visit.

  • Assist provider with physical exam and treatments; assist with surgical procedures as needed.

  • Ensure appropriate follow-up care after the provider visit.

  • Assist with patient care in primary care and Behavioral Health as needed.

  • Answer telephones as directed by the RN and providers.

  • Assist in specialty clinics as directed by RN supervisor.

  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed.

  • Maintain Infection control standards.

  • Stocks until clinical areas.

  • Keep supplies up to date.

  • Observe OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards and Universal procedures.

  • Check fax equipment for refill requests and test results.

  • Assist with autoclave/sterilization as needed.

  • Complete University and SHS annual training and competencies.

  • Complete education necessary to maintain certification.

  • Fulfill all COVID-related activities and any other duties as determined by the Nurse Manager/or Designee in order to meet the needs of SHS.


Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience. Must be certified as a medical assistant.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Certified as a Medical Assistant.

  • Prior Medical Assisting or ambulatory care experience.

  • BLS Certification. UCF SHS accepts the American Heart Association (or equivalent as indicated on the certification) which includes the hands-on demonstration portion.

  • Adheres to HIPAA (Health Information Privacy Protection Act) guidelines and education.

  • Knowledge of general healthcare practices and medical terminology

  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems.

Monday - Friday; Within the hours of 8:00 AM-6:00 PM (8 hour shifts/40 hours a week). Occasional Saturdays may be required. Hours are subject to change due to operational needs, special projects and emergencies.
