Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Pipeline System Controller Relief II with experience in pipeline, terminal or plant operations in the Oil & Gas Industry to join our growing team!

Role Summary:

The Pipeline System Controller Relief II role is responsible for remotely monitoring and controlling operations of a product pipeline system, monitoring system data and performance metrics across all of the Control Center's operating footprint, providing root cause analysis, supporting documentation and communicating additional support needs to stakeholders as prescribed in Buckeye's polies and procedures.

Responsibilities & Essential Duties include:

Remote Pipeline System Operation. Ensure safe pipeline operation for a minimum of one System Desk, including operating within defined safety limits and recognition and response to Abnormal Operation Conditions.



  • Schedule Adherence. Ensuring timely deliveries of product, optimize the scheduling process by coordinating with customers and other Buckeye support personnel.
  • SCADA Software. Monitoring and controlling system operations via SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) software.
  • Volume Accounting. Accurately documenting volumes associated with pipeline movements, maintain reports/documentation as required.


Remote Pipeline Monitoring, Analysis and Communication



  • Leak Detection. Analyzing the applicable leak detection system and verifying abnormal situations are addressed in a proper manner.
  • Monitoring and Analyzing Trends. Monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), and verifying abnormal situations are identified and addressed in a proper manner.
  • Concise Documentation. Documenting situations and events throughout the shift using checklists, producing reports and handoff sheets to include root cause determination, actions taken, and what future actions may be required. Ensuring this data is provided to the subsequent shift personnel, and both Field and Control Center supervision as required or upon request.
  • Communication. Providing concise written and spoken communication to appropriate stakeholders and in accordance with Buckeye's policies and procedures. Assisting with communication at the direction of the System Controllers, and during upset operating conditions.


Administrative and Other Tasks



  • Ensuring that situations that may require monitoring and highlighting beyond his/her shift are documented and passed on to the subsequent Shift Leader during shift change and, as appropriate, the Console Leader and Control Center Support staff.
  • Responding to emergencies during non-business hours; evaluating "one calls" and contacting appropriate field stakeholders as necessary, supporting incident investigations and working to resolve technical issues related to operations, as required.
  • Responding to building emergencies or security issues by following the Emergency Response Plan, contacting the appropriate response personnel and mitigate additional damage through immediate action.
  • Scheduling Controllers to cover last minute call outs.
  • And other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements:



  • To be eligible for Relief II, applicants must have completed at least 36 consecutive months at Pipeline System Controller level III, have at least OT performance, have zero operational issues, can operate a system console, be self-directed and able to work modified schedules to provide coverage for callouts.
  • Ability to navigate computer systems and Buckeye applications
  • Knowledge of SCADA applications and functionality, including generating trends and event logs
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.



Certificates & Licenses:



  • Valid driver's license



Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:



  • Ability to work rotating, 12-hour shifts and any scheduled holidays.
  • Incumbents must possess excellent communication skills to be successful in this position. The person should have the ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible and adaptable to changes in priority.
  • Quantitative and analytical skills are required qualities for this position.



Essential Functions:



  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.



Physical & Safety Requirements:



  • Must be able to visually monitor several computer screens in a control room environment for twelve (12) hour shifts. Must maintain a high level of mental alertness and be capable of quickly processing and reacting to incoming information from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System. Response time is very critical.
  • Must possess good communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, process work rapidly, set priorities, work under pressure, and follow through with assigned tasks with limited supervision.
  • The person should be dependable and flexible to accommodate unscheduled changes in work routine. This person must be capable of working 12-hour shifts. Working overtime, weekends, and holidays is required. The person should have good visual acuity, good color perception, good verbal communication skills, and the ability to remain seated for 95% of the 12-hour shift. Opportunities to walk away from the console may be limited.
