Department Overview

The Strategy Department is responsible for the on-going management, refreshment, and implementation of PG&E's 10-year enterprise transformation strategy known as the True North Strategy (TNS).

Position Summary

The Expert Strategy Analyst is a position within the True North Strategy Team and will provide critical insights into global political, social, economic, and technology developments that may affect PG&E's operating environment, investments, and strategy. This role involves monitoring the external environment, conducting thorough analyses of business implications, delivering clear and concise reports, and offering strategic advice to senior leadership. The Strategy Analyst will also build and maintain a strong network of contacts within relevant industry groups and institutions and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with the company's strategic goals. Additionally, the position includes managing bespoke projects to meet the specific intelligence needs of senior leadership.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location (Oakland, CA) based on business need.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $118,000

Bay Area Maximum: $188,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Political and Economic Analysis: Conduct in depth research and analysis of global political, social, technology and economic developments of relevance for the energy industry, delivering concise, insightful reports.
  • Contextual Reporting: Publish short- and long-form research pieces featuring clear, forward-looking analysis to help senior leaders navigate external developments. Develop presentations and provide verbal briefings.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide strategic advice on the implications of regional, national, and global events for PG&E's business operations and investments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain a strong network of contacts within relevant institutions, think tanks, and private sector entities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with the company's strategic goals and standards of excellence.
  • Bespoke Projects: Create and manage bespoke projects to meet the specific intelligence needs of senior leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Policy, Sociology, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 6 years of job-related experience

Desired:

  • Master's degree in economics, political science, public policy, or other related field
  • Experience in political, social, or economic analysis
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills and experience communicating with multiple diverse stakeholder groups
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to manage fast paced and highly dynamic situations
  • Background in intelligence gathering and analysis
  • Understanding of the intersection of energy markets, public policy, and geopolitics
  • Exceptional analytical skills, ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable insights, and effective engagement with diverse stakeholders
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills and relationship building
  • A collaborative and team-oriented spirit
  • Ability to navigate complex organizations and stakeholder engagement experience; stakeholder mapping a plus
  • Highly organized, with demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities at once
