In Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, faculty members, researchers, and students are revolutionizingfocus areas in advanced manufacturing, bioengineering, computational engineering, energy and the environment, product design, and robotics. In addition, they are using their expertise ininterdisciplinary research centers across the university.

Carnegie Mellon University's department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support by focusing on thermal sciences and physics for advanced energy related applications, design and fabricate novel material architectures, integrate them into functional prototypes, and explore applications in thermal management, imaging, and sensing. You will combine nanoscale energy transport, nanofabrication, and nanophotonics expertise with collaborative skills to innovate at the intersection of materials science and physics and such other tasks that are assigned to you.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and fabricate novel materials and devices using computational modeling and nanofabrication
  • Develop functional prototypes
  • Collaborate across disciplines to explore applications while publishing research findings

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in engineering, materials science, physics or related field required
  • Experience with nanofabrication techniques and optical characterization.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
