Production Supervisor

We are looking for a Production Supervisor to join Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis, the global leader in Raman spectroscopy, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), and quenched fluorescence (QF) instrumentation for laboratory, process, and manufacturing environments. Our laser-based analyzer systems perform high-performance chemical composition and concentration measurement of all phases of matter in any installation environment.

What is the role about?
This position will oversee employees, direct/assign job orders, order floor supplies and equipment, coordinate with Supply Chain (i.e. Planning, Purchasing, Shipping, Inventory Control), carry out company production goals and execute training and development plans for their assigned group.

Which essential functions will you perform?

  • Reviews Production schedule (i.e., Production Dispatch Report) and verifies start/end dates are met.
  • Reviews Production performance and provides feedback to employees (i.e., meeting planned hours).
  • Coordinates with Planning to ensure jobs are on-time and follows up on production stoppages and issues.
  • Enters CO Revisions for production stoppages.
  • Coordinates with Quality and/or Manufacturing Engineering on issues (i.e., rejecting parts, MRR, MRB, equipment failures).
  • Coordinates with Systems Integration Engineering on build requirements, drawing and/or BOM issues.
  • Leads stand up meetings for assigned groups and escalates issues to Manager of Manufacturing
  • Reviews attendance and approves employee timecards and PTO requests (coordinating with Planning to ensure exception rules are assigned in ERP system).
  • Responsible for training and development & performance reviews in partnership with Manager of Manufacturing.
  • Coaches and trains employees to meet company expectations and goals.
  • Motivates employees to achieve work goals by promoting team building activities and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintains Production Facility (i.e., preventive maintenance, fire extinguisher, flow benches, test beds).
  • Coordinates with Quality department on the calibration of equipment and tools for Production.
  • Reviews Chemical Log and assigns employees for monthly checks.
  • Orders floor stock items, tools, and equipment needed, coordinates with Test & Calibration on gas bottle inventory.
  • Maintains a safe, clean work environment on the production floor.

What qualifications are needed?

  • High school diploma required; college degree in Business, Operations Management, or similar discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in leading/supervising 10-15 employees in a manufacturing environment; preferably low volume, high-mix capacity.
  • Must possess in-depth technical knowledge of 1.) Test and calibration, 2.) Mechanical (sample cell system plumbing), and 3.) Electronic assembly (soldering, circuit boards, etc.).
  • Must have experience in operations, inventory and materials management, MRP and Lean manufacturing processes.
  • Must have experience with custom products/orders with the understanding of the level of variation our products demand. The ideal candidate should be resourceful, flexible, and open-minded.
  • Must possess a strong customer service orientation and provide dedicated support of internal customer requirements.
  • Must be a proactive change agent and possess strong leadership skills to build and maintain a team-oriented environment while leveraging Lean methodologies.
  • Must have solid interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff and interact with various departments and various levels of management.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization. The successful candidate will understand how to motivate their team, develop positive relationships, and understand how to address individual concerns.
  • Must be flexible, decisive and a proactive problem solver.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to work on multiple priorities at once.
  • Must be able to work well in a high pressure, fast-paced environment and be proficient at conflict resolution with the ability to balance immediate and long-term priorities.
  • Must have MS Windows and MRP/ERP proficiency (Syteline preferred).
  • Experience in ISO 9000 standards preferred.
  • A background in Instrumentation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HR / labor management experiences.
  • Proficiency in launching new products and engineering changes.
  • Use tact and good judgment when correcting production errors or handling personnel issues.
  • Help employees with problem-solving and getting the resources and tools needed to fulfill job orders.
  • Explain and enforce company policies when needed.
  • Must use good judgment when handling emergency situations.
  • When dealing with behavior and/or work performance issues, recommend disciplinary action to Production Manager and Human Resources Manager.
  • Must be open to weekend work when necessary, depending on production scheduling.

The listed range for this position is $70,000-$100,000 but the actual package offered may vary depending on different factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation for this position would include other elements which include an annual nondiscretionary bonus.
