Description

POSITION: Behavior Intervention Specialist

DEPARTMENT: BIST

Starting Salary: $44,000 - $49,000 annually

(Starting salary depends on education and experience)

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Behavior Intervention Specialist works with families whose youth are part of Kansas Foster Care's specialized high acuity case team. Case assignments are kept low and are made based on the behaviors of the youth and targeted support needed for the caregivers to achieve success in long-term placement. The BIST Specialist works in the family's home. The BIST Specialist provides interventions, strategies and coaching to the youth in need and the adults in the home caring for them. If successful, the youth's stability in the placement is at less risk of disruption and behavioral incidents are reduced. The BIST Specialist is paired with a specialized high acuity foster care management specialist and as a team their goal is to assist families in problem solving regarding the specific needs of youth in the home.

Minimum Requirements





    • Required

      • High School Diploma


    • Preferred:

      • Bachelor's degree in social work or other human service field and 1-3 years' experience working with children / families.






In addition to the above requirements, incumbent must:



  • Complete Sanctuary training in a timely manner;
  • Have a valid driver's license and proof of current vehicle insurance;
  • Follow all agency policies;
  • Be able to pass state abuse, neglect, and criminal background checks;
  • Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodation.
  • Perform all job duties in a manner which demonstrates a commitment to Sanctuary values and practices.
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity of clients, team members, and other community partners.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to perform a range of physical motions including, but not limited to:

    • Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.
    • Standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time.
    • Kneeling, squatting, and stooping.
    • May need to be able to drive for long periods of time, day or night.




Must be at least 21 years of age and pass background check, physical and drug screening. This position also requires a valid driver's license and proof of current vehicle insurance.
