AESC is looking to add a Process Engineering Intern to our team in Smyrna, TN

  • Full-Time (40 hours a week May-August)

The South Carolina gigafactory in Florence will supply technology-leading battery cells for new electric models produced in BMW Group's Spartanburg plant. About the Role

Main responsibility will be to collaborate and follow instructions of a Lead Process Engineer on the installation phase of a larger project of re-tooling the facility into a state-of-the-art automated battery production line.

As an Engineering Intern you will be assigned smaller projects that will support communication between equipment installers, Progress Reporting, Equipment Sequencing, Equipment Start-up, and Initial Engineering Trials.

You will collaborate cross-functionally with our Global Engineering Teams, Equipment Vendors, Machine Movers, and Local Teams to ensure the equipment process is installed correctly from an engineering perspective for long-term success.

What You Will Do

  • Works cross-functionally with Global Engineering Teams, Local Engineering Teams, MFG, MNT, and QA to assist in the engineering design of equipment installation and planning.
  • Monitors timelines and progress of equipment install to ensure that everything is on track according to the schedule.
  • Works with PE's in assigned area to make recommendations for current operations and future development.
  • Communicates status of current projects or tasks with estimated completion times.
  • Demonstrates data driven problem solving methodology.
  • Required to perform a designated improvement project throughout time as an intern.
  • Required to perform a wrap-up presentation with engineering team and managers at conclusion of internship.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You Need

  • Must be a self-motivated individual with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have good understanding of root cause analysis (RCA), problem solving techniques, and process control management for quality and issue resolution.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Works well in a highly collaborative fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to apply technical math skills to solve real world problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; report writing skills, presentation abilities, and motivational skills. Experience with contributing to the creation of reports, dashboards, and presentations.

Experience: None required.

Education: Mechanical/Industrial/Chemical engineering student with at least 1 year into their major concentration from an ABET accredited program.

Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office applications and knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor.

  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic.
