Propulsion System On Board Diagnostics Calibration Manager

The Candidate will Lead the OBD calibration staff to insure the OBD diagnostic calibrations are certified according to the schedule, meet regulatory compliance and minimize the warranty costs for each component or system that affects tailpipe emissions.
Responsibilities include:


  • Plan the resources (vehicles, manpower) and OBD diagnostic calibration and validation activities to ensure the objectives and timing deliverables are met.
  • Assign workload to engineers on an application / monitor basis.
  • Assign package calibration leads responsible for conducting emissions demonstrations
  • Best practice: 1 person lead per engine / VF, no shared lead responsibility
  • Provide program status updates at program meetings - Director review, Quality Gates, MR, PR, SRM, Systems, Board, PMC, Launch Readiness
  • Publish the project status spreadsheet weekly
  • Plan and track OBD demonstration activity, manage emission rolls priority and request necessary overtime.
  • With cal leads, generate and approve demonstration test plans
  • Review & approve DDV and demo emission test data to ensure compliance
  • Review passing and failing data populations to understand the variability of each in-field diagnostic strategy.
  • Ensure the MIL is on when tailpipe emissions exceed the regulated thresholds.
  • Review diagnostic calibrations effect on false pass, false fail and in-use monitor performance ratio (IUMPR) results; implement necessary improvements as required by the analysis.
  • Provide the calibration input to the CN process - OBD 1 pager, DVP, DVPR, OBD Cert statements.
  • Review & approve cal release DVPR generated by package cal leads
  • Review HMSR Reliability, Durability, and 3/36 fleet issues.
  • Work with the Quality team to review and improve EBRG results.
  • Provide OBD input to the ED&D program estimates - vehicles, FTEs, resources.
  • Coordinate and provide updates to DTC Matrix.
  • Review in field diagnostic issues.
  • Mentor at least one CoE.
  • Mentor group engineers and participate in PLM and career development discussion.
  • Group organization - participate in interviewing prospective engineering candidates, hold group meetings, hold regularly scheduled 1/1s with all group members, conduct budget forecasting, and manage all HR and time related tasks such as RP approval, ESTRS, and PLM activities.

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related degree field
  • 10 or more years of work experience in engineering
  • 4 or more years as a manager of people
  • OBD or Safety technical experience
  • Calibration experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • FUSA experience
  • DFSS certified
