This position is responsible for adding value to the bank by leading projects related to statistical analysis, model building, and applying mathematical and statistical expertise to various bank projects and processes. Independently conducts quantitative analysis and complex modeling projects, and collaborates with heads of lines of business. Leads efforts in development of new models, analytic processes or system approaches, as well as meeting with upper management and regulators to explain details of projects. Creates detailed documentation for all activities and may work with technology staff in design of any system to run models developed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads efforts pertaining to building, performance monitoring, and optimization of statistical regression models for the assigned area.
  • Explains model theory and application to management and regulatory agencies.
  • Implements statistical methods in the development of the bank's stress testing capabilities.
  • Evaluates and enhances current mathematical models related to underlying assumptions, theoretical foundations, statistical and mathematical methods, empirical evidence, data quality, and software implementation.
  • Assesses quality of model outputs through back testing against realized outcomes and benchmarking against other models or systems. Improves methodology involving data capture and analysis through the bank's internal data warehouse.
  • Develops independent tests and designs experiments for data collection and validation.
  • Calculates statistics pertaining to defaulted customers.
  • Provides Ad hoc statistical and mathematical support bank-wide.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job does not have supervisory duties.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related field; Master's degree preferred; at least three years quantitative analytics experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of mathematical regression modeling
  • Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical concepts to data analysis
  • Ability to clearly explain complicated mathematical concepts
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact with upper management
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and problem solve
  • Ability to read and interpret documents required to perform essential job functions
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Power Point, and Office
  • Basic knowledge of and exposure to the banking industry and banking concepts, preferred

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate a keyboard if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 20 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an "undue hardship" then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
