In September, Sonoco announced it is performing a strategic review of the Thermoforming Flexible Packaging (TFP) business unit. In order to support a newly formed global packaging company with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion, we are seeking a Capital Project Manager that will be responsible for providing Safety, Continuous Improvement, and Capital Project Management support and vision to improve operations processes and practices within our Thermoformed and Flexible Packaging division.
Reporting directly to the TFP VP of Manufacturing, you'll work closely with multi-functional teams from the plant floor, Division TFP Core Team and the Division Finance Team.
You will support TFP Global Performance System initiatives that span across the division including supply chain, training, systems development, and other TFP evolutions and utilize Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to drive a culture of learning, a dedication to ongoing improvement, and a focus on sustainable results.
Additionally, you will have responsibility to manage TFP's Capital project initiatives, including managing the Division engineering team that includes direct reports.
Safety is also a major aspect of this role. A direct report will be reporting to you to help manage these processes.
What you'll be doing:
  • Lead TFP implementation including the implementation of Manufacturing Basics as defined by the Division TFP Core Team.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain implementation plan in conjunction with leadership team to drive training and activities in support of ongoing process improvements.
  • Communicate & Review monthly trip report, implementation plan, and scorecards as applicable with Division management team to ensure compliance to plan
  • Utilize division and functional leaders to calibrate divisional expectations with SPS regarding Safety, 5S sweep sheet / audit, DTM audits / checklist, machine condition, and maintenance excellence
  • Work with Plant Managers, Area Managers and Division Finance on yearly plant capital budgets and throughout the year on project substitutions that stays within overall plant budget
  • Point of contact with Major equipment suppliers to ensure equipment is meeting specs and service that is agreed upon in the project scope
  • Align division engineering support to meet plants needs from site prep, install and ongoing support of major equipment install
  • Ensure project spend is meeting forecast and communicate any deviation to plan to division leadership
  • Work with Division leadership team to identify correct metrics and stretch goals for plants in all phases of the SPS Continuum, ensuring balance of forward progress and realistically achievable targets
  • Train, coach and educate plant level associates on improving zero based losses and key performance indicators such as manufacturing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), product quality, waste reduction, process performance, supply chain efficiency, energy conservation, safety, and operating costs.
  • Function as a member of the Division TFP Core Team.
  • Assist in strategic planning of capital projects, including cost / benefit analysis, and assessment of financial impact both plant and division levels.
  • Align appropriate Divisional goals with Safety through leadership of a division level Safety steering team.
  • Identify and train appropriate personnel to understand, communicate and take actions based on metrics and tracking implemented.
  • Perform job functions without direct supervision.
  • Assist in leading, coaching, mentoring projects, succession planning, TFP, Budgeting as required for Division
  • Mentor and support Lean-Six Sigma, DMAIC and TPM processes as needed. Work closely with SPS Specialists. Coordinate TFP and SWFL process implementation as needed

Location is Flexible, Remote Role and Expected to travel 50% or more

  • 4 year degree and 10 years of manufacturing experience working in and leading a Continuous Improvement Environment. Even better if you have experience implementing a performance system or process improvement tools such as, 5S, TPM, Six Sigma, Kaizen events and lean manufacturing.

Compensation:

  • The annual base salary range for this role is from $151,040 to $169,920, plus an annual target bonus of base salary.
