Organizational Unit Overview
The University Studies Program, housed within the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences ( THCAS), offers a Bachelor of Science in University Studies ( BSUS). This degree is designed for students seeking a non-traditional path to successful degree completion, moving beyond the conventional "majors" framework. The BSUS allows students to craft an integrated yet individualized course of study, tailored to align with their career aspirations or goals for advanced education.
This degree is particularly well-suited for non-traditional learners, including students with prior credits but no degree (commonly referred to as "part-way home" students), military-affiliated individuals and veterans, and transfer students. The BSUS aligns with ECU's commitment to access by reducing barriers to degree completion and its dedication to student success by helping individuals achieve their unique academic and career objectives.
Job Duties
The Academic Advisor will provide guidance to first- and second-year students intending to major in one of the traditional degree programs within THCAS, collaborating closely with the Academic Advising and Resource Center ( AARC) team to support student achievement.

About 60% of the position is focused on providing effective academic advising to students pursuing the BSUS as well as first- and second-year students intending to major in one of the traditional degree programs within THCAS. This includes assisting students with making appropriate course selections, identifying their interest and talents, choosing careers and appropriate majors, understanding university academic policies and procedures, and becoming engaged in the life of the university. 30% of the position will focus on teaching UNIV 2000 and/or COAD 1000 and 10% on recruitment and retention events such as Open House, new student orientations, graduation, and college and university student recruitment events.
