Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Public Benefits Case Reviewer role. The successful candidate will join the Public Benefits Unit and the diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.


Job Summary

This position is responsible for advanced level work conducting case reviews of SNAP, TANF, and all Medical Assistance programs. This position will review cases for timeliness and accuracy, identify trends and causal factors of errors, make training recommendations and report review findings to leadership.
Responsibilities also include verifying corrective actions are completed by the identified deadlines. This position will also assist in the facilitation of SNAP Management Evaluation Reviews, as well as state and regional reviews and audits.
This position may provide occasional coverage for supervisors and may conduct initial and ongoing eligibility determinations.

The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Thorough knowledge of the policy and procedures for complex federal, state, and local SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid programs.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis to monitor the quality of work produced.
  • Ability to clearly present information in understandable terms.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply policy appropriately in determining eligibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, coworkers, staff, other professionals, officials, and the public.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field; four (4) years of experience in public benefits/public assistance programs at the level of Public Benefits Program Specialist II or above; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Pass pre-employment background to include criminal, credit, Child Protective Services (CPS), and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Special Requirements:

  • This position may be located at our Leesburg or Sterling office and may be assigned and required to work at an alternate work site(s) to carry out duties that support the needs of the County.
  • The successful candidate may be required to perform work that involves crisis situations and is required to make decisions involving people, resources, and property.
  • This position has up to a 4-day per week telework schedule after 60-90 days and a successful evaluation of performance.
