REPORTS TO: Director of Social Studies POSITION OBJECTIVE: The job of Secretary, Literacy Center is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for clerical support, day to day management, floor supervision and various informational databases of The Literacy Center; creating and maintaining databases and associated records pertaining to student walk-in traffic, scheduled appointments and at certain times of the year, the scheduling of interviewing and training of student tutors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Targeted, job related education with study in a job-related area. REQUIRED SKILLS: * Operate standard office equipment * Prepare and maintain accurate records * Use pertinent software applications * Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios * Read and interpret a variety of manuals * Write documents following prescribed formats * Present information to others effectively * Understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions * Knowledge of library practices * Proficient in computer and Internet operations * Familiarity with office application software * Understanding of board policy, district, state, and federal regulations/laws * Schedule activities, meetings, and/or events * Gather and collate data * Operate job-related equipment * Work flexibly with others in a variety of circumstances * Handle data using defined but varied processes * Operate equipment using standardized methods * Collaborate effectively with a wide diversity of individuals * Work with similar types of data * Utilize job-related equipment efficiently * Identify problems and create action plans to resolve them * Independently interpret data for problem-solving * Address moderate-level equipment issues * Establish effective working relationships with staff and students 2/20/2025 N I L E S T O W N S H I P H I G H S C H O O L D I S T R I C T 2 1 9 7 7 0 0 G r o s s P o i n t R d S k o k i e , I L 6 0 0 7 7 8 4 7 - 6 2 6 - 3 0 0 0 w w w . n i l e s 2 1 9 . o r g * Adapt to changing work priorities * Communicate effectively with diverse groups * Work as part of a team ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Coordinates a variety of projects, functions and/or program components for the purpose of completing activities and/or delivering services in a timely fashion. * Coordinates requests of counselors, teachers, tutors, tutees, parents, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of tutors for specific assignments and in specific locations. * Instructs teacher-tutor substitutes and lunchtime and after school relief clerks for the purpose of providing guidance for implementing the RAT and TIC programs. * Maintains a wide variety of complex manual and electronic documents files and records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and ensuring the availability of materials when required. * Monitors, supervises and disciplines students for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning. * Orders supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability as needed. * Oversees tutor program for the purpose of providing orientation, training, assigning work/task, obtaining tutor substitutes, and ensuring assignments are completed. * Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit pertaining to District 219. * Prepares manual and electronic documents and reports for the purpose of providing documentation and information to others. * Processes a wide variety of documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information in compliance with administrative guidelines and/or regulatory requirements. * Responds to inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction related to the Literacy Center. * Schedules tutees with appropriate tutors for the purpose of facilitating purposeful tutoring sessions. RESPONSIBILITY Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization's services. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
