Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for implementing the School Health Services program under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. The LPN will provide comprehensive nursing services to individuals, families and communities in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention while safeguarding their integrity and recognizing their right to make their own decisions. Interpret student immunization needs. Continue to expand clinical base of nursing knowledge and skills. Daily work activities may include care of students entering the health suite, medication administration, screenings (i.e. vision, hearing), evaluation and treatment of conditions, and referrals. Assists the registered nurse in determining the needs of the general student population and children with special health care needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Education High School Diploma and/or GED Minimum Work Experience Required Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) Upon Hire (Required) Must maintain current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid from a recognized provider. (Required) * Knowledge and understanding of a school health program, including recognizing trends relating to school health as well as developmental patterns and needs of school-age children. * Knowledge of the techniques of data collection for an analysis of health needs. * Knowledge of a wide variety of medical conditions, diagnoses, and specific diseases. * Knowledge of medications and medication administration practices. * Ability to provide general health information to school age children and families with a wide variety of health problems under the supervision of a registered nurse * Competency in basic math calculations, conversions and basic computer skills as demonstrated by written or computer assessments Functional Accountabilities
