JOB SUMMARY The Pharmacist Informaticist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care for patients through the automation, maintenance and development of information technology and automation. This is achieved by serving as the primary professional staff member in the Department of Pharmacy responsible for the clinical and operational dimensions of technology to enhance use of medication information and safety in the patient care process. The Pharmacist Informaticist must demonstrate excellent interdisciplinary communication and exhibit strong educational and precepting abilities. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental/infection control standards. Develops/implements process to meet/comply with standards and regulatory requirements. Perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Participates in establishing the health system vision and strategy for pharmacy automation and information technology. Act as primary liaison between the Department of Pharmacy and pharmacy information technology and automation issues. Works effectively with an inter-disciplinary team to evaluate, plan, design, develop, test, implement, maintain and support projects and initiatives of the department and the heath system. Serves as the liaison and provides input to Pharmacy Leadership team from an information system standpoint. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
- Education/Experience
Both PGY1 and PGY2 from an ASHP-accredited residency program in pharmacy informatics; PGY1 from an ASHP-accredited residency program with 3 years of progressive clinical practice with at least 1 year experience in a position similar to an informatics pharmacist or 6 years progressive clinical practice experience with at least 1 year experience in a position similar to an informatics pharmacist and Bachelor's Degree Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy
- Licenses and Certifications
(BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification with course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) Eligible for licensure by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required Upon Hire and Texas license with TSBP within 30 days of date of hire. within 30 Days
JOB DUTIES
- Performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental/infection control standards. Develops/implements process to meet/comply with standards and regulatory requirements.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Participates in establishing the health system vision and strategy for pharmacy automation and information technology. Plans for current and future information requirements and evaluates and provides recommendations on a broad range of hardware and software products for applicability, compatibility, safety, efficiency, and long-range integration with other systems.
- Act as primary liaison between the Department of Pharmacy and other health care professionals with respect to pharmacy information technology and automation issues. Works effectively with an inter-disciplinary team to evaluate, plan, design, develop, test, implement, maintain and support projects and initiatives of the department and the heath system.
- Consistently works and problem solves independently and effectively. Takes charge when necessary and is looked to for direction. Makes the right decisions and uses good judgment.
- Serves as the liaison and provides input to Pharmacy Leadership team from an information system standpoint regarding any proposed operational, clinical, or policy changes.
- Maintains current industry knowledge and trends, attending educational events, acquiring certification, and participating in committee work as appropriate.
- Supports ongoing development, maintenance, and support of electronic health record system including: data reporting, performance improvement, identifying and resolving computer-related problems, monitoring reports of problems, coordinates downtime, reports software problems, and participates in quality improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
