This opportunity is located within our Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company business, a global leader of mission-critical hardware and systems solutions including precision energetics systems and innovative explosive solutions. Job Description Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense is currently seeking a talented Environmental Specialist in our Simsbury, CT facility, reporting to the Manager of Safety & Facilities. The Environmental Specialist is a critical member of the greater EH&S team and will be responsible for managing the EBAD hazardous waste program. Qualifications/Requirements: * A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the hazardous waste industry, or relevant military experience * Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, CTDEEP, DoD, DSS, DHS and other Federal, State, and local regulations with respect to environmental protection. * Must have excellent people skills and demonstrated ability to motivate a workforce and train in a Lean Manufacturing environment. * Must be fluent in English, and able to obtain/maintain a security clearance. * Innovative and creative approaches and solutions to problems are important. General Responsibilities (but not limited to): * Understanding of EPA Regulations and applicable State Regulations and EBAD EHS policies * Develop a high-level of state and federal regulatory expertise ensuring compliance needs met (RCRA, DOT, OSHA and CTDEEP). * Manage all aspects of the Hazardous Waste Program * Preparation of hazardous, chemical, and biological waste for shipment and disposal, including creation of all federal/state waste documents and managing records. * Safe handling of hazardous waste containers onsite, as well as loading/unloading waste from vehicles. * Complete all required manifest paperwork and documentation accurately. * Conduct safety equipment and hazardous waste inspections. * Occasionally perform and document Environmental Health and Safety audits. * Observe EHS regulations, wears all required safety equipment, encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel. * Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors. * Conduct spill response measures, including assessment of the spills and cleanup efforts. * Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation, conduct sampling and prepare applicable EHS reports, as necessary. * Assist in the compliance of applicable laws and regulations. * Ability to collaborate with employees to achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance. * Maintain positive and initiative-taking relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies. * Perform other work-related tasks as required and assigned. * Comply with all Company and EHS procedures and policies. Facility Specific Responsibilities (but not limited to): * Walk the manufacturing floor on a regular basis to establish EHS presence, ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations and provide support. Implement, and manage EHS Programs, Policies and Procedures. * Perform facility Environmental inspections, sampling, and reporting. * Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, DoD, DHS, etc.), including company EHS policies and procedures. * Ability to oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance i.e., labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc. * Assist in emergency response. * Powered Industrial Truck trained. * Perform additional duties as assigned Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
