Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $31.34 to $33.14 and may be commensurate with experience.

Position Description:

The Housing Specialist oversees the management and tracking of housing subsidy payments, maintaining accurate records and coordinating with external agencies to support residents' housing needs. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, effective collaboration with key stakeholders, and a strong commitment to ensuring compliance with housing assistance program requirements.

Qualifications:

Required: Associate degree; 1-3 yrs. experience in Accounting or Finance

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3 + yrs. experience in Accounting or Finance; experience with low-income housing tax credits

Required License/Certification: N/A

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong customer service skills for effectively engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and present clear, simplified solutions
  • Resilience and persistence in working toward problem resolution
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Adaptability and multitasking capabilities to manage competing priorities


Expected Contributions: Accounting



  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with SOME's mission, advocacy initiatives, and organizational goals.
  • Enter Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) transactions into the OneSite database and reconcile resident ledgers.
  • Prepare journal entries for HAP receipts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Liaise with the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) as needed to obtain monthly payments and resolve discrepancies.
  • Review and optimize prepaid, delinquency, housing, and modified rent roll reports for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitor and track housing payments, proactively identifying and resolving any inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department to coordinate payment processing and adjustments as necessary.


Expected Contributions: Property Administration



  • Set up scheduled billing of HAP payments in OneSite software.
  • Input new building opening data and set up scheduled billing of HAP payments in OneSite software.
  • Assist Asset Management and Property Management team with additional tax credit compliance activities and processing of kwiktag information for updates
  • Communicate with DCHA regarding resident certification documentation or changes
  • Define unresolved housing issues and escalate as needed
  • Communicate with Property Management and other stakeholders on regular basis to convey housing and payment concerns
  • Collaborate with Asset Management, Property Management, and Facilities Management on market rent reviews and submission to DCHA for rent increases.


Reports to: Housing Compliance & Finance Manager

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings offsite
