DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented HDM IT Software Engineer I to join our team specializing in Systems/Information Technology for Cummins, Inc. in Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Develop Software Solutions : Analyze information needs, consult with users, study systems flow, data usage, and work processes, investigate problem areas, and follow the software development lifecycle.
  • Document and Demonstrate Solutions : Create flow charts, layouts, and documentation to illustrate solutions.
  • Evaluate Feasibility : Assess analysis, problem definitions, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions to determine feasibility.
  • Understand Business Needs : Identify and create tools to manage business needs effectively.
  • Prepare and Install Solutions : Design and determine system specifications, standards, and programming for solution installation.
  • Provide Information and Protect IT Assets : Collect, analyze, and summarize development issues while maintaining confidentiality of IT assets.
  • Improve Applications : Conduct systems analysis and recommend changes to enhance applications.
  • Define Applications and Interfaces : Allocate responsibilities to applications, understand solution deployment, communicate requirements for interactions, and define Nonfunctional Requirements (NFRs). Understand and apply multiple architectures, programming, and testing standards, and industry standards for traditional and agile development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Agile Architecture - Designs the fundamental organization of a system embodied by its components, their relationships to each other and to the environment to guide its emergent design and evolution.
  • Agile Development - Focus on designing robust APIs that can serve as the backbone of your applications. Incorporate these elements into your development process to create solutions that are future-proof and adaptable to emerging trends.
  • Solution Functional Fit Analysis - Break down systems into their components to understand how well they fit together and meet various requirements.Employ industry-standard tools and methodologies to conduct your analysis effectively.
  • Solution Modeling - Develop detailed models and diagrams that accurately represent the system and its components.Utilize version control and build/test automation to streamline the development process and maintain high quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related subject, or relevant equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Experience working as a software engineer such as in a temporary student employment, intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities is preferred and includes working in an Agile environment and demonstrating knowledge in fundamental IT technical skill sets and ability to take a solution from scoping requirements through actual launch of the solution.

Additional Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

This role is ONSITE.

  1. Manage the complex factory falcon manufacturing cloud environment for publishing manufacturing, safety, Ops related applications across the EBU plants.
  2. Supporting critical legacy applications (.NET based) to support operations of current product lines (Head, Block, Flex) at HDM.
  3. Designing and building a broader and more complex IT landscape spanning modern and legacy systems (Oracle, .NET, Ignition etc.) at HDM.
  4. Adding functional capability to EBU Azure Cloud based Factory falcon system to unleash full potential of Cummins Cloud first strategy.
  5. Training and building technical capabilities within HDM IT

Minimum Experience, Education Requirements

  1. 5+ years Software engineering experience working in Manufacturing Industry.
  2. Extensive experience with .NET 3.5 (and above) and Python 3.0 (and above) frameworks.
  3. Solid Experience building cloud (AWS or Azure) based reusable, performant and reliable software.
  4. Extensive Experience building and managing database systems such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
  5. Bachelor of Engineering in Software/ IT or Associates Degree from an accredited college

Experience Preferences

  1. Programming Experience with Allen Bradley/ Siemens PLC
  2. Experience with various communication protocols MODBUS, OPC, MQTT
  3. Expertise with manufacturing software & systems (e.g., machine controls & sensors, IOT devices).
  4. A passion for learning and eager to build capabilities around the latest Industry 4.0 technologies.

Compensation

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidates qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
