Job Summary

The Chief Administrative Manager (CAO) for the Community Physician Group (CPG) provides strategic, administrative, and financial leadership to support the mission and goals of the department. Reporting to the UCDMG Director of Operations, and Medical Director of CPG, the incumbent oversees day-to-day physician operations across 9 Regions of care and 13 clinical physician sites where CPG physicians practice, ensuring alignment with the directives of the Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, Ambulatory Clinical Care Services and in partnership with the Associate Chief Operating Officer of Ambulatory Care. Key responsibilities include fiscal management, business development, strategic vision, patient access optimization, human resources, physician contract negotiation, and coordination of student and resident assignments. The Administrative Manager plays a pivotal role in strategic planning initiatives, fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and representing the department on various Health System and School of Medicine committees. This position requires a strong capacity for managing complex healthcare operations and administrative responsibilities while promoting excellence in service delivery and organizational performance.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in positions of increasing responsibility or complexity in healthcare administrations, financial or data analysis, and strategic operations.
  • 5+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and supervise teams and manage and prioritize activities and projects for staff.
  • Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting. Ability to identify and design meaningful and actionable metrics - both qualitative and quantitative. Design and run queries, collect, and analyze financial and performance data. Ability to produce sophisticated and relevant reports and analysis for leadership use.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure accurate and complete data through validation with ability to interpret data effectively and accurately through identification of trends, opportunities, and issues. Advanced skills in identification of trends, opportunities, and issues with the ability to provide meaningful and root cause analysis to key stakeholders.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate productively with leadership, managers, clinicians, customers, staff, and vendors to promote optimal functionality and integration of information to achieve system and strategic objectives and goals.
  • Effective listening skills to understand issues, diverse perspectives, and objectives. Identifies and sensitive situation and works to overcome barriers and be persuasive.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts, information, and instructions in a clear, concise, and specific manner to subordinate staff, management, and all end users of data operations.
  • Customer-service orientation as evidenced by project work with considerable experience working in direct and indirect management roles.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to deliver high quality results within aggressive timelines
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred Master's in Business or Healthcare Administration or other advanced degree in a related area
  • Familiarity with visualization/analytics tools (Business Objects, Tableau, SAS); ability to translate data into actionable information via graphical representations.

Department Overview

UC Davis Medical Group, under the leadership of the Executive Director, represents all organized medical group practices of UC Davis Health's primary and specialty care faculty and staff physicians. It collaborates with leadership in the School of Medicine and medical center to set and achieve joint strategic goals across UC Davis Health.
The medical group supports faculty and staff physician practices within the Sacramento Valley as well as across Northern and Central California to bring best clinical practices and establish new services at rural hospitals and clinics. The medical group operational team leads and executes strategic planning, business development and operational structures necessary to build, expand and operate the physician practice in alignment with the university's strategic goals.
