Hourly Range: $19.49 $29.24 /hr

Job Summary

Lead the Ranger unit's seasonal employees in the coordination and delivery of services designed to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations and the safety of the public, employees and Milwaukee Parks' assets for a thriving Milwaukee County Parks system.

Job Responsibilities




  • Park Patrol - Oversee daily patrols spanning 156 parks and over 15000 acres of land. Execute goal-orientated specific patrols that include, but are not limited to: enforcing compliance with Parks regulations, auditing and selling permits & dog tags, enforcing parking regulations, issuing citations for respective County Ordinance violations and providing a reliable and friendly presence to ensure enjoyable recreation experience for all. Coordinate and assist specific patrol duties with large scale events with duties such as crowd control, traffic control, money handling, security observation posts and coordinating service delivery as well as providing direct support at the events.


  • Shift Supervision - Supervise the coordination of up to 14 Seasonal staff workers, assigning and guiding them through specific duties to ensure adequate park patrol coverage. Assist with managing schedules, resolving scheduling conflict(s), and communicating back to Coordinator(s) with changes.


  • Encroachment/Illegal Dumping - Investigate, effectively communicate, and perform follow up with violations of Encroachment and Illegal Dumping. Update and record enforcement actions in Park Ranger database(s) to track all progress and end results. Work collaboratively with the Planning and Natural Resources divisions to mitigate violations.


  • Administration and Auditing - Assist in reviewing Rangers' daily activity sheets for completeness and accuracy. Authorize and revise as needed. File track, organize and reconcile records on the collection of an increasing number of fees, permits and citations in our internal database.


  • Engagement Liaison - Provide customer service as needed when in the field. Act as Parks department representative and liaison in community meetings, block watch and park watch events as well as with other community partners.


  • Training and Compliance - Lead field training officer (FTO) year-round, for all seasonal and/or part-time Park Patrol employees. Provide training on Parks locations, personal safety and awareness, special event traffic control, reporting of property damage crimes and other aspects of the job. Assist with related duties with the annual Roade, the Parks internal Operations training fair.


  • Senior On Call - Periodically, serve as On Call (as scheduled) contact, up to four weeks per year to ensure that emergencies that occur in the Parks during night/weekend hours are handled appropriately and in a timely manner to ensure public and employee safety and to protect Parks assets.



Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.


  • At least One (1) or year or a season of practical Law Enforcement or Security related CPR/AED, First Aid,


  • Associate degree preferred with the minimum experience requirement.


  • Addition Law Enforcement, Security, and/or Training related certifications preferred.


  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs. required.


  • Availability to workdays, evenings, and night shifts, overtime, weekends, and shift rotations is required.
