Overview
The ITLS Department seeks to hire an Academic Advisor that will work with all of the department's academic programs, including PhD, EdS, MA, MEd, MS, BS, minors, certificates, and endorsement programs. The position offers opportunities for growth and career development, with its primary duties including support to students and aid to grow the department's academic programs. The position provides program related support to students, the department head, graduate and undergraduate program directors, faculty, and business services while acting as the Academic Advisor and Graduate Program Coordinator for the department.

Responsibilities
Academic Advisor Responsibilities:
  • Manage all outwardly facing documents and the department presence on the web and in University systems
  • Provides advising services in person, by phone, via zoom, by slack, or by email
  • Provides accurate information related to curriculum, graduation requirements, and university policies and procedures
  • Creates semester-by-semester graduation plan for students and monitors progress toward their declared major
  • Assists students in making responsible and informed decisions impacting academic progress


Graduate Program Coordinator Responsibilities:
  • Ensures adherence to graduate student and department policies and procedures
  • Facilitates processing of graduate program applications and monitors student progress through their entire program
  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of all graduate programs, including data collection and reporting to program directors
  • Collaborates with faculty, students, and business services to coordinate


Department Support Responsibilities:
  • Travels to support recruiting at schools, fairs, and no more than two academic conferences per year
  • Facilitates discussion with program directors on updates to website, recruiting materials, program planning sheets, as well as program improvement
  • Trains peer advisor, staff assistant, and web and social doctoral assistant on academic programs
  • Plan ITLS Awards Program, ITLS Dept. Socials, and ITLS department cultural events throughout the year
  • Works to build a learning community, network, and support system among ITLS community members
  • Makes appropriate referrals and develops referral resources to other University and non-university resources
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned


Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree is required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Previous university experience, especially that intersects with key systems (see below)
  • Working knowledge of Banner student modules
  • Working knowledge of USU registration system
  • Knowledge of SGS policies
  • Experience with Recruit admissions CMS
  • Experience as a Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC)
  • Experience as an undergraduate Academic Advisor
  • Ability to supervise and train student employees, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments

The Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences department is composed of fifteen faculty with specializations in several areas including gaming, STEM education, assessment, the maker movement, mobile technologies, simulation, cognitive science, computer science education, digital libraries, learning analytics, and computational thinking. The department offers Ph.D. and Master's degrees along with endorsements in School Library Media Administration and Adult Learning.
