Job Overview

The Welder-Assembler (Large Structure) is responsible for assembling and welding structural sections for Komatsu mining equipment. This role involves aligning, fitting, tacking, and welding components, assembling mechanical units, and preparing heavy machinery for shipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in welding, assembly, and material handling while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Job Responsibilities


  • Assemble structural components using layout, fitting, tacking, and welding techniques.



  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to determine layout and assembly sequence.



  • Use measuring tools, shop mathematics, and marking tools to ensure accuracy.



  • Perform manual welding using FCAW and GMAW processes in various positions (flat, horizontal,vertical, overhead).



  • Utilize overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment to move and position heavy weldments and machinery.



  • Drill, ream, tap, file, and grind surfaces as required for assembly.



  • Secure heavy machinery and equipment for shipment using appropriate welding, bolting, and bracing methods.



  • Cut, shape, and prepare materials using saws, torches, air carbon arc gouging, plasma cutters, and other cutting tools.



  • Align, assemble, and install motors, generators, and other mechanical components on mining equipment.



  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following company policies and safety procedures.



Qualifications/Requirements


  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in welding or fabrication preferred.



  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in structural assembly, welding, or a related field.



  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.



  • Experience with various welding techniques using Flux-core and Gas Metal Arc welding in flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead positions.



  • Ability to use measuring tools, shop mathematics, and layout methods for accurate assembly.



  • Familiarity with material handling equipment, including overhead cranes, forklifts, and hoists.



  • Skilled in using power tools such as drills, saws, reamers, grinders, and plasma cutters.



  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures.
