OVERVIEW

LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, headquartered in downtown San Francisco, is looking for a full time People Operations Specialist to support our SF, East Bay, Napa, and North Bay offices and to fill a valued role in our growing organization.


QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of 1 year experience working in a community-centered setting and/or guest services/reception role.

Bicultural and bilingual welcomed, particularly in languages like American Sign Language, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Tagalog, or Vietnamese.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong Microsoft office skills and experience in database entry; strong interpersonal skills to relate to staff, blind/visually impaired students, and persons in the community with varied backgrounds and viewpoints. Ability to formulate individual, sequential training plan. Ability to move about within a variety of environmental conditions. Knowledge of braille desired.

Demonstrated attention to detail and in possession of problem-solving skills; flexibility and ability to multi-task; ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment; and grant and project oversight abilities.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Education

  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, local organizations, senior centers, and eye care professionals.
  • Deliver presentations to community support providers like medical institutions, educational organizations, and others working in the community about blindness and Lighthouse services.


  • Deliver presentations to agencies and community groups serving potential LightHouse students about what LightHouse does and how to get started. Trainings may be conducted in-person at LightHouse, at other agencies, and in the community; hybrid; or virtually.


  • Collaborate with Program staff to co-present and co-table at Outreach Fairs throughout the state of California.
  • Participate in local and regional government leadership groups on behalf of LightHouse and the blind, low vision, and DeafBlind community.


New Student Intake

  • As the main point of contact for incoming students in the North Coast, the Community Education Associate will complete New Student Intake for the Farn North. Intakes will be expected to handle sensitive information respectfully and enter student information into LightHouse's Salesforce instance and/or the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Responds to new student inquiries and new referrals for services within 3 business days
  • Be knowledgeable in all LightHouse services and be able to communicate LightHouse Service Plan and LightHouse offerings to new students. Provide this information with empathy, understanding, and clarity.
  • Regularly meet with other Connections Department colleagues and other Intake Coordinators to ensure consistency of LightHouse student intake process across all LightHouse service areas.
  • Provide Information and Referral services to callers who are outside of LightHouse's Service Area
  • Must comply with HIPAA regulations in all communications and handling of documents.
  • Maintain up-to-date First Aid and CPR certifications, to be paid for by LightHouse


EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE:

  • Ensure entry of all student service data into Salesforce and other relevant systems are entered by Wednesday for the prior week.
  • Submit monthly reporting, billing, and reimbursements accurately and timely by the 5th business day of preceding month.
  • All inquiries will receive a response in their original format within 3 business days
  • Maintains regular relationships with local partners and community groups, with at least 4 touch points per month.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for long periods and operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to work at offsite location(s) independently as needed.
  • Ability to travel throughout Northern California as needed
