DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves participating in a systematic and progressive on-the-job training program under the supervision of managers and other personnel. The training aims to develop skills in performing a comprehensive array of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair tasks for construction equipment, trucks, and automobiles that operate on gasoline or diesel engines.

In this position, you will help repair and maintain cars, trucks, and heavy machinery. You will learn to service equipment like sweepers and front-end loaders, identify necessary repairs, and assist in replacing parts such as shock absorbers and brakes. Your tasks will include wheel balancing, minor body repairs, and working on electrical components. You will also engage in preventative maintenance, conduct automotive diagnostics, perform tune-ups, and change tires. Additionally, you will repair engine subassemblies and various systems, and assist with state inspections for safety and emissions, ensuring vehicles meet required standards and completing necessary documentation.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Winter shifts are 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Tradesman Helper (commonwealth title) working in the automotive field; or
  • Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires employees to possess an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires employees to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
  • This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
