This Environmental Specialist position will cover the South and West Regions of Texas. The successful candidate may work at a service center within the territory they are supporting.Options include Fort Worth, Waco, Temple, Abilene, or Wichita Falls. This position is predominantly in the field.

Candidates with the following experience are preferred:

  • Previous experience inspecting pipeline or linear projects for environmental compliance.
  • TPDES stormwater inspections
  • SPCC compliance inspections
  • TCEQ Tier II chemical inventory reporting
  • RRC annual hazardous waste reporting
  • DSHS demolition and asbestos abatement notifications
  • Multi-media sampling
  • Emergency response
  • Knowledge of universal, non-hazardous, and hazardous waste

Primary Duties

1. Prepare and submit environmental permit applications for natural gas pipeline projects with limited complexity including, but not limited to, TPDES stormwater construction general permits, USACE Section 404/401 permits/certifications, antiquities permits, hydrostatic discharge permits, water use permits, and landfarming permits. Work will be performed with relative independence and will progress to managing more complex projects with greater independence.

2. Oversee project implementation for adherence to permit and regulatory requirements until project termination.

3. Monitor activities of outside consultants engaged in environmental work in support of company projects.

4. Review due diligence reports (wetland delineations, cultural resources surveys, bird surveys, etc.) prepared by consultants for accuracy and adherence to project scope and company practices.

5. Establish relationships and maintain rapport with regulators and internal stakeholders.

6. Maintain familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations impacting company operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS

Educational/Experience Level:

Bachelor's degree in related science or engineering field and three years relevant experience, or high school education (or equivalent) plus seven years relevant experience.

Communication Skills:

Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or modifications on technical or other complex concepts.

Numeric Skills:

Requires the ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages and advanced to complex statistical methods.

Computer Skills:

Requires intermediate to advanced computer skills for data entry, report creation and/or retrieval tasks.

Work Conditions:

Works primarily in an office with limited travel and field work. Work will occasionally occur outdoors, on pipeline right-of-ways, natural gas facilities, active construction sites, and hazardous waste sites.

Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning, lifting and/or walking through or around environmental work and hazardous waste sites.

Positions in the business unit are considered driving positions, and per company policy, motor vehicle record (MVR background checks are required.
