Pump Shop Helper

Job Summary:

The Pump Shop Helper supports the daily operations of the pump repair shop. This hands-on role involves sandblasting pump components, assisting with disassembly and assembly, handling tools and equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, follows safety protocols, and is willing to perform general labor tasks to assist senior mechanics and shop management. This position provides an opportunity to gain industrial experience while contributing to the team's overall success.

Key Responsibilities:

* Sandblasting: Clean and prepare pump components by removing rust, dirt, old coatings, and debris. Training will be provided for those unfamiliar with sandblasting equipment.

* Assist in the disassembly, cleaning, and inspection of pumps and related equipment.

* Support the assembly and testing of pumps to ensure proper functionality.

* Assist technicians with troubleshooting and maintaining pumps, motors, and related systems.

* Operate tools and machinery, including grinders, drills, and other equipment used in pump repair.

* Prepare parts for painting, coating, or further treatment after sandblasting.

* Maintain an organized and safe work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.

* Assist with handling and moving heavy parts or equipment as needed.

* Follow all safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

* Support the shop team with general tasks, such as organizing work areas and assisting with loading and unloading deliveries.

Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Forklift experience (preferred but not required).

* Previous experience in a mechanical or industrial setting (preferred but not required).

* Basic understanding of pump systems and parts (a plus).

* Willingness to learn sandblasting procedures - training will be provided to operate sandblasting equipment safely and effectively.

* Good physical stamina with the ability to lift and move heavy equipment.

* Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Strong communication skills and a positive attitude toward learning new skills.

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to a specified weight limit).

* Ability to stand for extended periods.

* Comfortable working in a noisy environment while using safety equipment.

* Ability to perform repetitive tasks and follow safety protocols.

* Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions (heat and snow).
