Responsibilities

Job Summary: The Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, deployment, and maintenance of our Government customer's IT infrastructure at the Naval Research Lab (NRL) that supports a multitude of personnel and efforts. This role encompasses Virtual Machine (VM) management, ensuring robust security measures, and overseeing suites of hardware and software infrastructure components within multiple security levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong and versatile technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of IT infrastructure components and architectures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain Virtual Machine (VM) environments to ensure optimal performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Implement and uphold security protocols to safeguard infrastructure components and sensitive data.
  • Oversee the management, integration and maintenance of hardware and software infrastructure components, ensuring seamless operations across all platforms and security environments.
  • Design and implement robust infrastructure solutions to support customer objectives and technical requirements.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance and proactively address potential issues to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of infrastructure with applications and services.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for infrastructure-related issues.
    Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve infrastructure capabilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with 12-15 years experience; MS - 10-13 or Phd 10+
  • Proven experience as an project Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in managing Virtual Machine (VM) environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Experience with multple different operating system environments - Linux, Windows
  • In-depth knowledge of security practices and protocols, including firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
  • Extensive experience with hardware and software infrastructure components, including servers, storage, and networking.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Must have and maintain an active DoD TS/SCI (eligible) security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
