What We Offer

The R&D Lab Specialist position is an entry level specialist with limited support input. You will contribute to the development of new and/or improvement of existing products and technologies by providing laboratory technical support for synthesis and formulations within the projects. The experiments and standard analyses are conducted using best practices and should be prepared using the appropriate literature, software and input from the relevant R&D scientist. Furthermore, scale-up experiments are conducted via the attendance and guidance of experimental batches produced on pilot plant and plant scale.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Basic understanding and knowledge of techniques, pertinent tools (e.g. statistics, computers), instrumentation, lab functions to identify problems and support completion of work assignments; uses technical literature
  • Employ and apply specialist knowledge in a defined area of expertise in order to meet business project objectives.
  • Evaluate and report results. Oral reporting in the form of discussing results and suggesting necessary improvements and solutions. Written reporting with clear conclusions and recommendations.
  • Schedule test programs, following instructions of Scientist/Team Leader. This includes laboratory synthesis and formulations as well as scale-up of selected recipes/formulations to (pilot) scale operations and production support to the various production sites.
  • Ascertain that test equipment is calibrated and in good functioning order.
  • Collect, prepare, label, retain and administer samples, according to standard procedures or as instructed by Scientist/Team Leader(s)
  • Execute the test program, applying standard test methods. Discuss any deviations from standard procedures with R&D Scientist/ Team Leader. Record and report test results and specific observations. Enter test results and other relevant data into appropriate systems, ensuring availability of correct data. Operate according to Quality, Environment, Safety and Health procedures and instructions. Maintain good housekeeping and compliance in all relevant areas.
  • Through gained experience, is able to be a good discussion partner for R&D scientists and managers within the department. Makes suggestions for improvements of products, application and analysis techniques and/or processes
  • Ownership of simple technical projects; assists in more complex projects

What You Offer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic education (degrees in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field; experience preferably in coating and/or adhesives laboratories)
    • No degree with 8+ years of exceptional industry experience
    • Associates degree with 4+ years of experience
    • Bachelor's degreewith 1 years of experience
    • Master's degree with 0 years of experience

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of and experience in own discipline Standard testing methods
  • Ability to independently plan and effectively execute multiple lab projects guided by R&D team's strategy and priorities and contribute to solving complex problems.
  • Very good communication, critical thinking, problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in teams, in diverse groups, and with other cultures, i.e. integrative and inclusive.
