The basics of this position:

The CIT Lab Assistant provides essential support within the Computer and Information Technology department. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the campus computer lab, including equipment upkeep, inventory management, and ensuring smooth lab operations. Additionally, the Lab Assistant offers direct assistance to students enrolled in CIT programs, providing introductory programming tutoring and basic troubleshooting for common operating system issues. This role extends support to the wider college community (STLCC) with general technological assistance. In summary, this position participates in designing, delivering, evaluating and improving services to students and faculty in support of the learning programs of
the College.

What you'll do:



  • Computer Lab Management:
    Maintain computers and related equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
    Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within the computer lab.
    Track inventory of lab supplies and equipment, placing orders as needed.
    Student Support:
    Provide tutoring and guidance on entry-level programming concepts.
    Offer basic operating system troubleshooting assistance to CIT students and the general STLCC student body.
    Assist students in understanding college and departmental policies.
    Departmental Support:
    Supervise student employees within the CIT department.
    Participate in meetings, departmental committees, and relevant workshops.
    Works with individual students on study skills.
    EF Administers tests and reports scores to students.
    EF Keeps inventory of supplies and equipment; places orders when necessary.
    EF Checks equipment for repair needs and notifies the appropriate persons.
    EF Informs students of College and department policies and procedures: informs
    students of job openings.
    EF Helps students with problems and makes appropriate referrals.
    EF Supervises student employees in the department.
    May attend meetings, serve on departmental committees, and/or attend workshops
    and special classes.
    May operate instructional equipment.
    Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Education, experience, and other requirements:

Associate's Degree or equivalent and over one (1) year of relevant full-time
experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Enrollment or Completion of CIT Program: Being currently enrolled in or having completed coursework within the Computer and Information Technology program at STLCC. This ensures a foundational understanding of the technical concepts students will need support with.
Prior Tutoring or Teaching Assistant Experience: Experience in providing academic support, either formally or informally, demonstrates aptitude in explaining concepts and guiding others.
Customer Service Background: Previous experience in a customer-facing role indicates strong communication skills and the ability to provide helpful support.
A+ or Similar Certification: Having an industry-recognized certification like CompTIA A+ demonstrates proficiency with computer hardware and software troubleshooting.
